The hosts took to the field first and struck early in the Park’s innings as John Williamson was bowled by Whatmore for a brace.

Greg Drewery and James Beevers shared in a partnership of 41 before the latter departed for 28. Skipper Charlie Rook chipped in with 19 and Drewery clocked up a half century as the Park’s total reached three figures.

Cameos from Ben Lewis and Steve Dawson added valuable runs but a number of batsmen got themselves out with injudicious shots rather than being overwhelmed by the TABS attack.

Fortunately, Mark Tissiman came to the rescue with a solid 41 at the back end of the innings which terminated in the final over on 188, well shy of what could have been.

The second half of the contest was dominated by man of the match Tissiman.

Darren Moody set the tone, trapping opener Griffiths lbw without a run on the board. TABS then rallied through Whatmore (19) and Wheatley (23) before Tissiman’s introduction into the attack reaped rich rewards as the hosts were reduced from 41-1 to 44-5.

Nathan Saltmer joined the wicket-taking action as he picked up his first two victims for the Park’s first XI.

Tissiman took his tally to six off 9 overs, conceding a mere 11 runs in the process and skipper Rook polished off the tail with his fifth delivery to secure a comprehensive 114-run victory against much-changed and below par opposition.

This Saturday, the Park return to home territory to face Clifton Alliance second XI.

We wish them well.

Terrington managed to sign off in style with a 4-1 victory in their final game of the season, meaning that they clinched 8th spot which left them exactly mid-way in the league table.

This is an excellent effort from all concerned in their initial campaign at the highest level of local football.

Terrington Glory Football Club have another six league games left in their inaugural season playing in the York League Premier Division, the top tier of local football.

Having lost a little momentum after Christmas, not helped by postponements due to the weather, the Glory’s 2-0 win on Saturday has lifted them back into 6th place. Realistically, this is the highest they can finish now but if they maintain it, this will have been an excellent effort from Dave Bradshaw and the boys in their first season at this level.

Hopefully, next season should allow them to build on this promising start, especially as they move back to playing their home games in the village of Terrington itself after the refurbishment of the changing facilities is complete.

Londesborough Park Cricket Club’s First X1 begin their season in Division 2 of the York & District Senior League with a home game on 27th April against Hornsea.

Once again under the leadership of Charles Rook, they will be looking to build on a promising 4th place finish last year, narrowly missing out on promotion in a rain-drenched season. Signs are encouraging with the usual mixture of experienced players and youngsters developed through the club’s respected community youth coaching programme.

Progress updates will be added here through the summer.

Vicky, also from Market Weighton, has now been assisting midwives in Accra, for more than half of her 3 month stay, gaining valuable practical skills and experience to assist her in getting into University next September to study midwifery.

Britcom sponsored Vicky had applied to University earlier this year, and was turned down due to her lack of ‘life experience’, but rather than resting on her laurels, as she is passionate about becoming a midwife, Vicky signed herself up for a Project Abroad trip to Ghana giving her the opportunity to work alongside midwives in Accra hospitals and mobile clinics. Despite Vicky working to earn money to fund the trip, she also needed to raise additional sponsorship to cover the costs.

Vicky is using the initial rejection from University as an opportunity to experience life as a midwife in an African country and to help those who may be less fortunate than herself.”

The Caterpillar Leicester Visitor Centre team have been running an incentive of an iPad2 to help increase machine sales to conquest (competitive) machine customers. To qualify the customer has to be a competitive machine user and has to have visited the Leicester Visitor Centre and subsequently purchase a BCP machine within 3 months of the visit.

The latest recipient of the incentive was J Cook Construction of North Hykeham, Lincoln; owned and run by Jem and Jacqueline Cook. J Cook are a customer of Britcom International, a Finning (UK) Ltd Compact Construction Equipment Dealer covering Lincolnshire and North & East Yorkshire.

Fairfax have asked Britcom to supply a fleet of 30 brand new CAT 308E 8 tonne Excavators as they recognise the very high performance and exceptional value for money offered by the CAT product.

Britcom Sales Executive Michelle Tate worked closely with Cat Financial Services and through Flexible Finance Options created a deal enabling Fairfax Plant to proceed with the purchase with confidence.

The first 10 units were delivered to Fairfax at the end of December 2012 and Fairfax have confirmed that they have all gone straight out to work in the New Year.

Mark Love of Fairfax praised the financial support from CAT Finance “As this purchase enhances our fleet of over 100 excavators ranging from 1 ton to 35 tonnes and we anticipate the 8 tonne becoming a more and more popular option in our hire fleet.”

Mark also said “Our investment in the CAT 308E is a significant change for Fairfax Plant Hire Ltd as the steel tracks with rubber pad inserts will improve the lifetime costs of the machines over traditional rubber tracked excavators. The 308E will ensure good value for money, which is crucial for a growing business like ours in the current economic climate.”

Initial feedback from customers has been very positive and Mark expects all 30 Excavators to be out working in the fleet later this year.

This deal will help reinforce the CAT Compact brand across Yorkshire and beyond & strengthen Britcom’s position as a Caterpillar Compact Dealer.

Messe München International is expanding its international network for the construction machinery sector with the launch of a new event in South Africa. The first bauma Africa takes place from September 18–21, 2013 in Johannesburg and is directed primarily at attendees from Sub-Saharan Africa.

The premiere of bauma Africa is attracting great interest in the sector, both at home and abroad: the South African Construction and Mining Equipment Suppliers’ Association (CONMESA) expressly welcomes the launch of a show for the whole construction and mining branch.

Croft Pre-school in Market Weighton is a small pre-school run as a charity and recently approached Britcom for sponsorship of their annual Race Night.

In total the evening raised £924 which, along with other fundraising activities run by the school committee will go towards buying toys, equipment and supplies to enhance the education of the children at the pre-school.

Croft Pre-School offers Ofsted approved childcare and learning designed to prepare children for school. Pupils receive the highest standard of care and attention as they provide more staff to children than is required by Ofsted. They are the only local pre-school to have achieved the Pre-School Learning Alliance’s national accreditation certificate, as recognition of our excellent quality of care and learning.

Our Bodyshop incorporates steam cleaning bays, essential in the first stage of preparing any vehicle for it’s makeover. Preparation from the start is important in ensuring that the final product is of top notch quality.

After steam cleaning the vehicle will then go into the shotblasting bay (if required) where the metal is stripped back, removing any rust and debris, which, if left on would affect the finished product quality.

The bus or coach is then taken into our bodyshop where any additional refurbishment work and sanding down will take place. Your vehicle then goes in to one of the two spraybooths in our Paintshop where our highly experienced spraypainters work their magic to return your bus or coach to looking as good as new!

Once the paint has been allowed to dry in our EPA compliant low bake spraybooths, the vehicle will then be cleaned and valeted, ready for delivery to the customer.

If required, we also work with local suppliers to provide lettering and livery application.

Conformity of Production Clearance has been granted to Britcom for 3 years through to October 2015.

The Conformity Of Production clearance relates to manufacturing systems and procedures operated within the Britcom Chassis Engineering Department.

Conformity of Production (COP) is a means of evidencing the ability to produce a series of products that exactly match the specification, performance and marking requirements outlined in the type approval documentation. Whether you are a manufacturer, or the agent applying for approvals on behalf of a manufacturer, and whatever your product is, suitable COP arrangements must be made.

For Britcom this is the first vital step to gaining appropriate type approval for specific products and series of products.

Britcom is also ISO9001:2008 accredited across the business and more recently included Design into it’s portfolio within the Chassis Engineering services.

And for those who had a moustache on 1 November and still have it on 30th November have the option of shaving it off for charity on the day, or paying double to keep it!

Prostrate Cancer UK fight to help raise the profile of Prostrate Cancer to ensure more men survive it and enjoy a better quality of life.

Having worked their way up the divisions in very short time, playing Premier League football for the first time was expected to be a big step up. However, the squad have acquitted themselves very well and currently lie in 6th place (out of 15) at the start of November ahead of some long established teams.

The Glory have largely beaten the teams they were perhaps expected to and have performed very well against the top sides, securing some notable draws and a couple of heart-breaking last minute defeats.

As we move into winter, the signs are encouraging for a successful campaign, especially as they have also reached the quarter-finals of the York FA Senior Cup.

On an individual level, goalkeeper Ben Gill is 2nd in the Golden Gloves standings and Ben Richardson is in the top echelons of the goalscoring charts.

We look forward to following their progress and wish them well for the rest of the season.

On Friday 26th November, the Britcom Team held their own fundraising activities for Breast Cancer Campaign’s Wear It Pink Day.

The Britcom ladies kindly donated their time and skills to baking plenty of pink delicacies including an array of buns, cup cakes, cookies and tarts which were sold at 50p each.

In addition, those who wore pink paid a donation of £1 for the privilege and those who didn’t wear pink (there were only a handful) had to pay a fine of £2!

In total the Britcom Team raised £192.63 for Breast Cancer Campaign. Thanks to everyone at Britcom who got involved on the day.

Look out for our next fundraising campaign – Movember; the Britcom Team will be once again digging deep to raise funds for Prostrace Cancer UK with ‘Funtache’Friday’ on Friday 30th November!

The sun shone and the wind pushed the rain away – the good weather was number 1 reason to celebrate after the downpours earlier on in the week.

The Britcom Cat Compact Challenge Zone, where people were invited to have a go on one of three mini digger challenges, was also a great success and attracted a lot of interest. It also raised £121 for the Driffield Agricultural Society towards their fundraising efforts for a new building.

Britcom Cat Compacts also attracted a range of new customers who we will be contacting and hopefully converting into sales in the coming weeks!

Last but by no means least, our final celebration was the 3rd prize awarded to us for the Stand Judging Competition. As first timers to the Driffield Show this is a great accolade – of course we will be looking to move up the ranks to attain Gold next year!

For those who tried their hand at the Challenges on the mini diggers, the winners will be contacted and CAT merchandise prizes organised and sent out to them. Pictures of all ‘competitors’ will be uploaded to the website in the coming days and images emailed to those who left their email address.

We hope everyone who came to the stand enjoyed themselves, and we look forward to an even bigger, better Driffield Show next year!

Britcom welcomes 2 employees to the company.

Will who is new to the company and is working in the Sales department and Paul who used to work in the engineering side of the company as a Welder Fabricator Supervisor and is now our Design Engineer.

Will is new to the company after working at The Royal Agricultural College for a year, where he organised events for the students.But after a year Will decided it was time to move on and so he came to Britcom.

Will was attracted by the versatility of the job and he is in and out of the office either at an auction or visiting suppliers.Working alongside Adam Day, Will’s role will involve procuring the trucks we sell and developing new contacts with suppliers.

Will now lives close to Britcom and in his spare time and enjoys Country Pursuits and long walks with his lurcher dog.

Paul has worked at Britcom for 20 years and started off as a Welder Fabricator, having being promoted to a supervisory role for the last 6 years.

Paul now works as our Designer Engineer compiling drawings for the workshop and customers. He also provides quotes for new and existing customers.

Paul rose to the new challenge and got out of his overalls and now into a suit. He is enjoying his new job greatly and is now learning new things after doing the same job for 20 years.

Paul’s promotion to Design Engineer means that there is the opportunity for a new member of the Team to take his place as Welder Fabricator Supervisor.

Both Will and Paul are loving their new roles within the company.

Alongside the usual exhibition area where we will be displaying a range of mini excavators, telehandlers, rollers and skidsteers there is a new area; new to both Britcom and the Driffield Show.

The CAT Challenge Zone is where we encourage plant operators and the general public* to try their hand at ‘driving’ a mini digger. There are 3 different machines and 3 different ‘challenges’.

The cost to have a go on a mini digger is just £1 and all funds go the Driffield Agricultural Society towards a new Society building which is long overdue.

So, come along to Stand M151 and M152 to meet the team, take a look at the Cat Compact range of equipment, and try and win some CAT goodies by being the winner on any of the 3 challenges! You don’t have to stop at just 1 challenge – have a go on all 3!

Bobby Pearcy joined Britcom’s Service Department in June 1987 and can claim to be the first employee, other than Director’s, to reach this milestone.

Bobby joined the company when it was very small, with less than 10 employees. 25 years on, Britcom employs 72 staff and now operates from a 15 acre site (with a further 4.5 acres currently being developed) and turns over more than £30 Million.

Bobby has seen many changes throughout his working career including moves from the previous Sancton Road site in Market Weighton to the current stateof the art purpose built site on York Road which Britcom moved into 6 years ago.

Bobby has been an integral part of the growth with his role in the Service Department; his speciality has been loading and driving the crane, along with repair of trucks, but he has also turned his hand to many other things over the years. He is a very versatile and valued member of the Team.

Lee Pearcy, Bobby’s son now also works as a Supervisor within the Britcom Bodyshop.

What’s more, over the next 3 years Britcom is likely to see several other members of staff reach the same 25 year milestone. A true testament that Britcom is a great place to work!

Londesborough Park Cricket Club is entering their 153rd season of cricket and continues to develop and grow; it is regarded as one of the most progressive clubs in Yorkshire.
